Psychological Evaluations for
International Students:
Reduced Course Load Requests
As a clinical psychologist, I conduct psychological evaluations for international students who are requesting a reduced course load for medical reasons. I can serve students who live in Washington State or in one of the PsyPact participating states.
How It Works
Step 1: Form Procurement
Connect with your university’s International Student Center or Designated School Official (DSO) to request their specific Medical Reduced Course Load (RCL) paperwork.
Step 2: Clinical Assessment
We will connect via secure telehealth for a thorough clinical interview. I will ask you a lot of questions about your mental health and school in order to gain a thorough understanding of how your academics are impacted.
Step 3: DSO Coordination
I will prepare a formal recommendation letter tailored to your university's compliance criteria. I will review the text with you to before submission to your DSO.
Please note that I do not decide whether your request is granted or not.
Fees
Evaluation sessions and DSO coordination tasks are billed at $300 per hour (administrative report writing is strictly pro-rated).
Please contact me as soon as you know you are interested in an evaluation. RCL requests can have very sensitive timelines.

I spent 14 years on the counseling center team at Seattle University, working closely with the International Students Office. I have supported many students with the process of requesting a reduced courseload. I fully understand requirements for documentation and submission.

International students often hold an F-1 visa. This is a non-immigrant visa that allows international students to enter the United States to study at an accredited educational institution.
Generally, international students in F-1 status must be enrolled full-time to maintain their visa and stay in the U.S. Full-time enrollment is usually defined as enrolling in a minimum number of credits or courses per semester.
A reduced course load (RCL) allows an F-1 student to enroll in fewer courses and still maintain their F-1 status. There are a few qualifying circumstances in which a student can request a reduced course load. One of these is for a medical reasons, which includes mental health.
