Young Adults
This is one the most dynamic times in your life! You can swim and fish on your own. You know how to avoid the leopard seals. You’re deftly leaping 6 feet from the water and landing skillfully onto the next ice floe. You’re hanging out with all your Gentoo penguin friends. There is no drama and everyone is following their dreams.
Right? No.
It only looks like this sometimes. A lot of times young adulthood feels like this.
And that’s ok! This is the time for it. You know a lot, you’ve done a lot, and you’re probably more independent than ever.
And this means that you may be feeling pressure to make choices.
And this means you may be dealing with others’ expectations about your choices. The adults in your life may be on your case.
Your social circle may also be shifting, which may be causing you some uncertainty or loneliness. You may wonder how to make friends.
And then there’s your brain. If you’re in your 20’s, your brain is probably still developing the part that is in charge of planning, emotional regulation, reasoning, understanding consequences, and impulse control.
What all that means is that you may have a big sense of adventure without a lot of guardrails in place. And again, that’s ok. You may just have to work harder at making thoughtful decisions.
Maybe you’re not sure what comes next for you and this whole adulting situation is overwhelming.
With all this going on, I can help be a grounding force.

I have worked with young adults since 2004, when I started graduate school at the University of Denver. From 2007 - 2009 I worked at the counseling center at the University of Oregon, providing individual and group therapy.
From 2009 - 2023, I worked at Seattle University’s Counseling and Psychological Services, where I provided individual and group therapy to Seattle University students. I facilitated groups on body image and eating concerns, anxiety, and post-graduation concerns. I met with students individually on pretty much every concern you can imagine over the course of my time there. Many of these topics I’ve listed on this page and elsewhere on my website.

I love working with young adults because it’s a big time of finding your own way. And that’s hard and scary and awesome all at the same time. You’re brave and bold even if you don’t feel it or see yourself that way. Your persistence is inspiring.
